Dances With Horses Animal Sanctuary
We Provide Animals With A Lifelong Home Where They Are Safe, Free and Loved
Dances With Horses believes in the protection and care of all animals. We offer a beautiful peaceful setting for animals of all types. Our property is fenced around the entire parameter to ensure the safety of all animals. In addition, we have a security gate which requires an access code to enter the property as well as 24 hour security by trained dogs.
We offer a number of programs focused mainly on animal rescue and providing homes for abused and unwanted animals. In addition, we provide a home to horses and animals that people are no longer able to keep due to relocation, moving, financial or personal reasons.
We are involved with all animals but focus heavily on draft horse rescue and stallion rescues. We rescue and provide homes fo rmany unwanted, donated or abused Stallions, Shires, Clydesdales, Percherons, Belgians, PMU Horses, foals and saddle horses. We have found that draft type horses and stallions are frequently neglected due to people's misunderstanding of the needs of these types of horses including feed requirements, shelter, medical and farrier needs as well as an understanding of how to handle these larger animals.

We have the privilege of providing homes to some amazing animals including: llamas, lambs, horses, dogs, goats, miniature horses, beautiful stallions and gorgeous draft horses. We Believe In Protecting Animals Always
Animals Should Always Have Unlimited Access To Fresh Water
Horses Should Have Enough Pasture
To Run And The Freedom To Socialize
We are firm believers that because horses are herd animals, they need to be with other horses for their positive mental and physical growth and well being. We will not sell a horse unless it will be housed with other horses or another companion such as a goat, lamb, etc. We allow our horses the freedom to run, play and be active at all times. All of the horses have a pasture large enough that enables them to enjoy a run.
All Pets Should Always Have A Place
to Seek Shelter From Bad Weather
We are extremely grateful for the amazing animals that have been donated to Dances With Horses. We are proud owners of multiple Dobermans, a gorgeous Great Dane and a Native American Indian Dog. They have all been donated to us to live out their lives enjoying lots of freedom, interaction and endless love.
All of our animals interact with one another including all of our dogs, horses, llamas, alpacas and lambs. They all have freedom to roam 40 acres, access to water, shelter and socialize daily. All of our dogs have access to heated shelter with their own couches and a puppy door giving them freedom to roam free.
The Native American Indian Dog is an absolutely amazing breed that is indescribable. They are gentle, kind hearted and very loyal.
Kiowa is extremely sociable with other dogs, the horses and actually watches over our lambs, llamas and alpacas. He is approximately 130 pounds. He does not bark and only howls during the night and during the day. Kiowa has access to heated shelter at will but always chooses to lay in the snow even on the coldest days.
All Of Our Animals Interact With One Another
We have adopted some beautiful horses over the years and placed them in wonderful new homes at the request of their previous owners.
These horses were all given a second chance and went on to live their lives in a loving and safe environment. Being a part of that process has been the most rewarding thing that we have ever done.
Numerous animals have been donated to our Sanctuary where they live in a natural environment with huge pastures and the ability to roam, interact and enjoy their freedom.
A number of horses and other aninmals are donated to us and will live their lives out on our farm unless it is requested that we place the animal in a new home when possible.
Stallions Need Unlimited Freedom to Socialize
We handle stallions quite differently than most in that we do not segregate them from other geldings and stallions. In these photos, many of these horses are active breeding stallions turned out with eachother. We socialize all stallions to be able to enjoy playing and running with other horses which is a necessary factor in providing for their positive attitude and prevent the development of bad habits typically attributed to stallions.
Our stallions are mentally and physically healthy because the are allowed to behave like horses. They are not confined and segregated even during breeding season. They have healthy interactions with other horses and are allowed to establish relationships and communicate with eachother as they would in the wild without infliciting injuries.
Our mares are kept out of sight of the stallions which enable them to interact in a non threatening atmosphere with one another and establish a normal pecking order within the herd.
When our stallions are actively breeding mares, they are still put out in pastures on a daily basis in order to run and play with other geldings. At the end of the breeding season, our stallions are reintroduced to one another and pasture and socialize together during the off season.
Horses Are Herd Animals And Need
To Socialize Even With Other Stallions
